Dismember: Hate campaign
04/01/08 || Kampfar
I hate, therefore I am.
Dismember, taste the name for a second. Mmm, tastes good, so good it makes me wonder whether it is the best name a death metal band ever had. I sure as fuck wouldn’t put you under narcosis and remove all limbs from your body if you made such a statement. Quite the contrary, as I would drug you unholy and fit you with a fully functional elephant cock/hamster cunt as an honor to your exquisite taste.
Enough bullshit, let the hate commence.
”Hate Campaign” is to my experience the least favored Dismember platter, by some even regarded as a rubbish effort, something I vehemently disagree with.
So, what could the reason be, why do so many think of ”Hate Campaign” as the least ball crushing Dismember album? I of course have a theory, and it is a simple one. None other of their recordings, if memory serves me, have had so little Iron Maiden influences. This train of hatred has few harmonies in its cargo, and this decrease may have been too much to for their seasoned fans to (grizzly) bear. Me, I didn’t dig into their discography before after I heard this fine piece of hate, so it would be a far fucking stretch to name myself among those.
Later I learned the gang had indeed made better albums in the past, and even later, “Where ironcrosses grow” taught me they had it in them to top “Hate campaign.” Still, I would like to headbutt any cunt claiming ”Hate campaign” to be manure straight on the nose. If you aren’t a monster that is, then I’ll use a shotgun. The only crapper I have detected on “Hate campaign” goes under the name ”Patrol 17”, a genuine tosser alright.
Many factors combined ensure Dismember their legendary status, the sloppy but distinct drumming of Mr. Estby being one, but what I would like to elaborate on is their lyrics. All due respect to Cannibal Corpse and their gore frenzied scribblings, at least they do it good, but their writings can’t hold a candle to the downright excellent work showcased by the dismemberers. Fuck, ”Bleeding over” may be the best fucking shit ever written. (It makes no difference, not at all, but I do hope someone pulls the trigger very soon) The tradition of writing worthwhile lyrics was not instigated with ”Hate campaign” but it was kept very well alive. I salute thee.
As for the sound, well, I still regard ”Like an everflowing stream” as their best sounding effort. It sounds expensive, polished and balanced, none which applies to ”Hate campaign”. On the contrary it is a gritty, muddy and slightly sloppy effort, but one with attitude and honesty all the way to Hel. Not that their debut lacked any of that.
As negative as this album is, it is uplifting to this sorry twat, much in the same way as Grave’s ”Hating life.” So don’t diss your math teacher, two fucking negatives becomes a positive. Strange world.
Fuck it.
8 fuck you’s out of 10.
